CHVFD Mourns the Loss of William “Andy” Devine, Jr.

William "Andy" Devine

It is with deep sadness we report the loss of William “Andy” Devine, Jr. on February 1, 2002.

Andy served the Capitol Heights community for many years. He began as member of the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department in 1944. Andy served as Chief from 1953 through 1955 and again from 1958 through 1968 and was also President in 1981. In 1997, Andy was inducted into the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association’s Hall of Fame. Still active, Andy dedicated over 50 years of service to our department. Andy was also a retired Battalion Chief from the Arlington County, VA Fire Department. In addition to his Fire Department service, Andy helped his fellow neighbors through his seat on the Capitol Heights Town Council for many years.

Andy was laid to rest on Wednesday February 6, 2001. The CHVFD members will greatly miss Andy and we offer our sincerest condolences to the Devine family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
