Station 5 Responds to a Working House Fire

Shortly after 1800 hours on Saturday, February 21, 2004, units were dispatched for a reported house fire in the 700 block of Captiol Heights Blvd. Units from Capitol Heights (Station 5), Seat Pleasant (Station 8), Boulevard Heights (Station 17), Tuxedo-Cheverly (Station 22), District Heights (Station 26) and Chapel Oaks (Station 38) responded.

Deputy Chief Weaver (Chief 5A) arrived, established command and reported a working basement fire. Battalion Chief 1 (Steen) was assigned to “Basement Division,” Chief 26A (Ingram) was assigned “Divison 1,” and Chief 17 (Forrester was assigned as “Accountability.”

The fire caused extensive damage to the basement of the house and spread to the first floor through the walls and floor. Units were on the scene for over and hour. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

During this incident a “working” house fire in Bowie and a large brush fire in Allentown kept units busy. An engine and ladder truck from the Naval District of Washington Fire Department transferred to Station 5.
