Learning about 911 helps 3-year-old aid her grandmother

On March 30, 2004 Ambulance 58 was dispatched for an unknown emergency in Chapel Oaks. However, the crew from Company 5 was unaware that they would soon encounter a little hero.

Miss Skyla Kilpatrick, 3 years old, called 9-1-1 after her grandmother had taken ill. Skyla remembered that she had learned how and when to call 911 in an emergency.

Skyla’s mother, Angela Adams said her daughter “called 9-1-1 because she knew something was wrong with her grandmother.”

It was Skyla’s quick thinking that helped her grandmother get the help she needed.

Skyla is a shining example of why children of all ages need to understand the importance of the 911 system. She was able to identify that an emergency existed and called the appropriate people in order to get help.

Parents and guardians should stress to their children at a young age, as Skyla’s mom did, how and when to call 911 in an emergency.

Good Job Skyla!
