CHVFD responds to report of smoke coming from a house

On Saturday, April 10, 2004 at approximately 0314 hours firefighters from the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department received a walk-in report that smoke was coming from a house at the intersection of Central Avenue and Suffolk Avenue.

Engine 51 and Chief 5, running as Battalion Chief 1, arrived at a house on the 400 Block of Suffolk Avenue to find heavy smoke coming from a two-story house and requested the street assignment. The assignment brought Engines from 38, 17, and 37. Tower 33, Rescue Squad 22 also responded. The Working Fire Dispatch brought Ambulance 488 and Medic 30. Ambulance 88 responded extra. Truck 5, which had just cleared another incident ran extra on the call.

Crews from 5 and 17 quickly knocked down the basement fire, while Truck 5 and Engine Company 37 checked for extension on the first floor. Rescue Squad 22 conducted a search.

Tower 33 was assigned as the RIT group. They also assisted with ladders and outside ventilation.

Battalion 3 (Dickerson) was assigned as Safety. Battalion Chief 66 was assigned Division 1. The Emergency Operations Chief was also on the scene.
