On Saturday, July 23, 2005, at 1102 hours units were dispatched to 3919 23rd Parkway on Box 29-10 for an apartment fire. Engines 422,371, 384; Trucks 32, 25; Rescue Squad 47 and Battalion Chief 5 responded.

Units clearing a previous call on nearby Anvil Lane were also put on the call. Engines 231, 51, 373; Truck 17; and Battalion Chief 3 responded.

Arriving units found heavy fire on the third floor, middle of the row, apartment. Fire was rapidly advancing through the roof area.

Firefighters assisted a resident off of one of the third floor balconies via ground ladder.

Engine 51 was the first arriving engine on Side Charlie. The crew from 5 advanced a hose line up a ground ladder to the fire floor. The ceilings were pulled in the apartment adjacent to the fire apartment. An aggressive attack was made on the fire in the roof to keep it from extending further.

Two firefighters were injured during the blaze. One firefighter was transported for burns to the ears. Another firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was treated at the scene.
