Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department Holds Its Annual Fire Prevention and Life Safety Day

Every 18 seconds, a fire department responds to a fire somewhere in the United States. Your local department, the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department, responded to over 3,300 fire and emergency medical calls in the year 2004. In addition to fire and emergency medical services, we provide an Annual Fire Prevention and Life Safety Day to educate our community.

On October 15, 2005, the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department conducted its Annual Fire Prevention and Life Safety Day from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. The event took place at the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department on 6061 Central Avenue, in Capitol Heights, Maryland. As part of National Fire Prevention Week, which runs from October 9 – 15, 2005, we stressed the importance of fire safety and provide our citizens the tools they need to stay safe.

As part of our commitment to the citizens of Capitol Heights, our Annual Fire Prevention and Life Safety Day included fire and safety information and resources, limited health screenings, interactive learning activities, live fire and rescue demonstrations, food, prizes and more.

We would like to thank all of the people who made this event possible. We thank our sponsors Home Depot, Henry’s Towing, and Kerley Signs for their support.

This event would not have been possible without the help of CHVFD members, auxiliary and B-Shift crew who worked to put on the event. We would also like to thank the crew from Company 8 who came out to demonstrate vehicle extrication.
