Al Laughery Inducted into PGCVFRA Hall of Fame

On Thursday, September 20, 2007, during the Annual Convention, CHVFD Past President Al Laughery was inducted into the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association’s Hall of Fame.

Alfred Laughery was born on October 25, 1910. He joined the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department in 1945 and remained active in the department until his death in 1977. During his thirty-one (31) years of service, he held various line and administrative positions. He served as President in 1964 through 1966, 1968, 1973 through 1975 and again in 1977.

Al was very active in the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association and the Maryland State Firemen’s Association. He served as a delegate to both organizations for many years. He participated in the fire department’s bowling league for years and was a member of the County Association’s Clown Club during the 1950’s and 1960’s. Al was very dedicated to the volunteer fire service and was an excellent member. There was no job too big or too difficult that would prevent him from rolling up his sleeves and jumping in to help or lend a hand.

A plaque was presented to Al’s granddaughter for his hard work and dedication to the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department.
