On Saturday, May 3, 2008, Capitol Heights volunteers staffed the Fire Safety House and handed our fire and life safety materials at the Harlem Renaissance Festival.
Festival organizers estimate that as many as 6,000 people attended this event. Approximately 450 – 500 children and adults went through Fire Safety House 5.
Fire Safety House 5 is a valuable teaching tool that allows us demonstrate a variety of safety messages and provide our neighbors with an interactive approach to life safety learning. Our audience learns about smoke alarms, kitchen safety, fire extinguisher use, proper usage for 911 system, home escape plans and more.
CHVFD members enjoyed the day teaching at the festival. Children in attendance were also excited to come back and participate in other Fire Safety House 5 presentations.
Fire Safety House 5 is available for community groups and other local departments by appointment on a first come first serve basis for your community event. We will do our best to accommodate as many requests as we can. Please contact Fire Marshal Jenni McClelland at [email protected].
