National EMS Memorial Bike Ride to Stop at Station 5

On Tuesday, May 20, 2008, the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride will stop at Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department on their way to the U.S. Capitol. The Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will provide refreshments to the bikers and supporters.

The event organizers are expecting at least 150 riders and supporters. This event is part of National EMS Week, which is May 18 – May 24, 2008. The National EMS Memorial Bike Ride honors both Emergency Medical Services personnel who currently serve the public and those who have developed illness, been injured, or have died in the line-of-duty.

The ride concludes on May 24, 2008, in Roanoke, Virginia, where the 16th Annual National EMS Memorial Service will take place. In 2008, 73 EMS responders who have died in the line-of-duty will be honored. Their names will be placed on the National EMS Memorial “Tree of Life,” with the 350 previous honorees.
