Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department Responds to Fire at Century Old Farm House

Around 1825 hours on August 17, 2011, Engine 805 was alerted a call on Suffolk Avenue for reported house fire.

Chief 805 and Engine 805 arrived on the scene in the 700 block of Brooke Road, between Capitol Heights Boulevard and Suffolk Avenue, to find heavy fire showing from one of the oldest homes in the town. The house was an abandoned farmhouse, built around 1900, using balloon frame construction.

Firefighters found heavy fire on the first floor that was quickly spreading to the second floor. The fire was brought under control within 15 – 20 minutes. However, crews worked for several hours to hit hot spots and overhaul.

Ambulance 805 also responded on the Working Fire Dispatch.

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries while fighting the fire.
