Fire Prevention and Life Safety Day Returns to Station 5

CHVFD Fire Prevention and Life Safety Day 2013

Days of fall rain didn’t dampen the spirit of the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department on Fire Prevention and Life Safety Day 2013. Even though October 12th started off with rain, members of the community came out to the firehouse for a day or learning and fun.

There were interactive learning activities, demonstrations, and information on how to prevent fires and accidents from occurring. This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme, “Prevent Kitchen Fires,” focused on cooking safety.

The department was pleased to have the Black Nurses Association of Greater Washington and Capitol Heights Police Department to help educate people on health and safety concerns. The Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department also would like to thank Wegmans – Woodmore for their generous donation to provide refreshments for the event.

While the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department participates in many fire prevention and community events throughout the year, it was exciting to bring fire prevention activities home after our recent station renovation. Plans are already underway for next year’s Fire Prevention and Life Safety Day. We will also continue the deployment of our smoke alarm distribution grant over the winter months into 2014.
