CHVFD Mourns the Loss of Past Assistant Chief Raymond “RC” Jones

Raymond C. “RC” Jones, Sr.

The Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department is sad to report the passing of past Assistant Chief Raymond Carlton “RC” Jones, Sr. , on the morning of November 22, 2022.

RC joined the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department on October 1, 1963, soon after we moved into a brand-new firehouse. He held various positions within the department serving as the department’s Assistant Chief and on its Board of Directors.

RC worked as an exhibit specialist/model maker at the Smithsonian’s Air & Space Museum and was also a part-time officer with the Capitol Heights Police Department.

In later years, he served on many committees and shared his talents and experience with his extended fire department family.  His display-making and carpentry skills made us look polished and if you look closely around our firehouse, you’ll see some of the many places where RC made his mark. He built displays, framed banners, and most recently helped construct the “Wall of Fame” display in our meeting room after the renovation.

RC always joined in our annual Christmas in April project, which helped with home repairs and improvements for those in need.  He also participated in our door-to-door fire prevention campaigns, installing free smoke alarms in homes throughout the Town of Capitol Heights.
