On June 14, 2004, at the Maryland State Fireman’s Association 112th Convention, Chief James McClelland was honored as the 2003 Firefighter of the Year.
The award is based on outstanding citizenship, job achievement, and desire to make one’s department and community better. Nominations are made based on acts, achievements during the previous calendar year and judged by a committee appointed by the President of the Maryland State Fireman’s Association.
Jim was nominated for the many duties he undertakes both at the station and on the county level. His devotion to his company and to the citizens of our community is evident through his hard work. MSFA recognized this hard work, his achievements in 2003, and his service-oriented attitude.
MSFA President Terry Thompson presented Chief McClelland with a plaque. He also received a certificate, embroidered jacket, and decorations for his Class A uniform. His name will also be added to a plaque that resides in the Volunteer Firefighter’s Room at the Adult Education Center, University of Maryland University College in College, Park Maryland.
We are very proud of Chief McClelland and the work he does for our department, the community and the fire service. Congratulations Jim!
