National Guard Troops Deployed to Station 5 to Help With Emergencies

Two (2) back to back blizzards hit the Washington, DC area bringing more than 25″ of snow, crippling the area. These snow storms became known as “Snowmageddon.” National Guard troops and Humvees were deployed throughout the area. One Humvee operated out of the Capitol Heights fire station for several days making sure that emergency medical crews could get to sick or injured people and that fire apparatus could be pulled from the snow if they became stuck. Firefighter Dwayne Frost, Sr. was assigned to ride with them to operate the portable radio and act as the navigator.
