Each year, over 450,000 injuries occur in the United States due to severe skin burns, with young children and older adults most at-risk. Between 2007 and 2013, the proportion of burn center admissions due to scald burns increased from 29.8% to 33.7% nationwide.
CHVFD to Hold 2016 Fire Prevention Open House

CHVFD Smoke Alarm Campaign Keeps Capitol Heights Families Safe
Since April 2014, the members of the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department and career staff from Station 5 have visited over 1,000 homes in our first due response area to install smoke alarms. The alarms, new 10 year long life battery smoke alarms, were provided by a Fire Prevention and Safety grant from FEMA/DHS to the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department.

Days of fall rain didn’t dampen the spirit of the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department on Fire Prevention and Life Safety Day 2013. Even though October 12th started off with rain, members of the community came out to the firehouse for a day or learning and fun.

Fire Safety House 5 Participates in Gethsemane Baptist Church’s First Annual Health Fair
On Saturday, September 20, 2008, Fire Safety House 5 took part in an event at the Gethsemane Baptist Church. The church, located at 2500 Enterprise Road in Mitchellville, held its very first health fair.
