Company 5 Celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department goes pink this October; members and career staff will participate in several local events for Breast Cancer Awareness. The www.chvfd.org website will feature a pink ribbon and the red paint scheme will changed to match Engine 805B in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. Engine 805B, also known as “Pinky,” helps raise awareness and is always a big hit with community members and Breast Cancer survivors.
Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department Awarded Fire Prevention Funds through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program
On Friday, April 26, 2013 the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department was notified by FEMA that funding for our grant proposal has been awarded through the Fire Prevention and Safety Grants, part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department Celebrates Women’s History Month
As the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department approaches its 100th anniversary of incorporation, we would like to stop and reflect during Women’s History Month, on the contributions that women have made to our department throughout its history. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter designated March 2 through March 8 as Women’s History Week in an effort to recognize the accomplishments and and contributions women have made throughout history.
Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department Members Participate in 57th Presidential Inauguration
Three members of the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department provided additional support during the 57th Presidential Inaugural on Monday, January 21, 2013, in our Nation’s Capital, Washington, D.C. They joined other members in the CHVFD’s history that participated in previous inaugural events for Presidents Nixon, Reagan, and Clinton.

Lieutenant Rob Fralin Receives William E. Brown – Rescue Squadsman of the Year Trophy
During the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association Annual Convention, on Thursday, September 20, 2012, Lieutenant Robert “Rob” Fralin was awarded the William E. Brown Rescue Squadsman of the Year Trophy for his actions on May 19, 2012. His son DJ proudly accepted the award on his behalf, while Rob was out of town working.
Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department Responds to 3-Alarm Fire in District Heights
At 1942 hours on July 24, 2012, Engine 805 was dispatched to the 1900 block of Rochelle Avenue for an apartment fire on Box 2615. Units dispatched on the first alarm included: Engine 826, Engine 808B, Engine 805, Engine 837B, Quint 838, Rescue Engine 827, Tower 833 and Battalion Chief 883. Working fire dispatch before units arrived included: Ambulance 830, Medic 829, Safety Officer 800, Southern Safety Officer, Battalion Chief 881, and Duty Chief.

This year National EMS Week is May 20 – 26, 2012 and the theme is “More than a job, a calling.” To celebrate National EMS Week, the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department will hold a public safety education event to improve the safety and health of our community, as well as, recognize members of the department for their service.
