Mass Casualty Support Unit

On Tuesday August 8, 2006, Mass Casualty Support Unit (MCSU) 5 was delivered to the station. The unit is one of several units purchased through an Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant for the National Capital Region (NCR) and one of two Level II – MCSU’s in Prince George’s County. The second unit is planned to be located at Laurel Rescue Squad, Station 49. A Level II MCSU is designed to support the treatment of approximately 50 patients.

Family, friends, and members of the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary came out to help wish Louise “Alice” Long a happy 100th birthday.

National EMS Week Celebrated with Community CPR Event

The Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department held a Community CPR Training Course on May 20, 2006. The students were taught adult and pediatric CPR by EMS Captain Margie Byrd and Paramedic Lt. Tina Fitzgerald.

The End of an Era

On Tuesday, January 31, 2006, Metro Support Unit 5 was placed out of service. The unit originally placed in service at Station 5 in 1985.
