George A. Adams Inducted into the Founders’ Circle
Just weeks before, the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department lost member Richard Ager, George’s grandson, who was one of several family members involved with the department. Members of the department stood in for Richard, and along with grandson Al Adams to celebrate the accomplishments of our first leader.
Firefighter Phil Brown Receives the Norris J. Beard Junior Firefighter of the Year Award
One of youngest firefighters of the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department , 17-year-old Capitol Heights resident Phil Brown works hard at being the best firefighter he can be. The T.C. Williams High School Senior joined the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department in 2013 and is an asset to the department.
CHVFD Mourns the Loss of Honorary Lifetime Member Richard Ager
It is with great sadness that we report that Honorary Lifetime Member Richard Ager died on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 after a courageous battle with lymphoma. Richard joined the department in 1942 as a junior member. In August, the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department made Richard an Honorary Lifetime Member, for his previous service to the department and for being valuable resource for documenting our company’s history.

Wheels will roll, lights will flash and sirens will sound in celebration this weekend in Capitol Heights, Maryland. The Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department will celebrate its 100th birthday with a parade through the Town of Capitol Heights on July 12, 2014.

Herbert was active in sports and participated in the fire department softball and bowling leagues. He was the pitcher for the department’s softball team and helped lead the team to many victories.
Remembering 3 CHVFD Members Killed During World War II
On this Memorial Day, please take time to reflect on the supreme sacrifices made by our armed forces in service to their country, especially Ensign Michael H. Korn, Private 1st Class Julius M. Vajda, and Staff Sergeant Hersal B. Cralle. These three men were members of the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department.
Fire Prevention and Life Safety Day Returns to Station 5
Days of fall rain didn’t dampen the spirit of the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department on Fire Prevention and Life Safety Day 2013. Even though October 12th started off with rain, members of the community came out to the firehouse for a day or learning and fun.
Company 5 Celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department goes pink this October; members and career staff will participate in several local events for Breast Cancer Awareness. The www.chvfd.org website will feature a pink ribbon and the red paint scheme will changed to match Engine 805B in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. Engine 805B, also known as “Pinky,” helps raise awareness and is always a big hit with community members and Breast Cancer survivors.
Service and Sacrifice: Our Day at Arlington National Cemetery
Commemorating a century of service, the men and women of the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department began with a tribute to all of our veteran members. On August 31, 2013, members and their families gathered for a trip to Arlington National Cemetery to honor all who have served and sacrificed, including some of our own who never returned to quarters. They also visited the graves of past members who have been laid to rest on America’s most hallowed grounds.
