Mikulski, Sarbanes Announce Federal Funding for the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department

Senators Barbara A. Mikulski and Paul S. Sarbanes (both D-Md.) today announced Volunteer Fire Company #1 of Capitol Heights in Prince George’s County has been awarded $47,074 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. Senator Mikulski is on the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee that funds the AFG program and fights each year to increase its federal funding.

The Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department members and career personnel would like to wish you a happy and safe holiday season. Statistics show that the incidence of house fires increases during the winter holiday season – fueled in part by holiday decorations, candles and Christmas trees. According to the United States Fire Administration, house fires during the winter holiday season kill about 500 and injure about 2,000 people, and cause more than $500 million in damage. Here are some safety tips to help protect you and your family.

Engine 52 Back in Quarters

Emergency Vehicle Specialists (EVS) delivered the rehabilitated Engine 52 to the station on October 29, 2005. The engine had been at Emergency Vehicle Specialists (EVS) in Hagerstown, Maryland since June 16, 2005.

Station 5 Has an Eventful 2005 PGCVFRA Convention

The Brandywine Volunteer Fire Department hosted the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association’s 83rd Annual Convention during the week of September 17 – 24, 2005. This was an eventful year for the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department. Several of our members were running for positions within the Association and Ladies Auxiliary’s ranks; we also had a new inductee into the PGCVFRA Hall of Fame.

Members Take a Trip to Hagerstown to See Engine 52

Members from the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department took a trip to Hagerstown, Maryland to view the progress on Engine 52 and meet with the lettering contractor. The engine has been painted with its new color scheme and some of the compartment doors have been reinstalled.

Rehab Progess: Engine 52 Has Been Painted

On June 16, 2005, members from the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department brought Engine 52 to Emergency Vehicle Specialists (EVS) in Hagerstown, Maryland for its rehabilitation. As of September 16, 2005, we continue to make progress on the rehab.
